Saturday 26 June

Day 3, on the Mon’evurdy too-er

It’s 7.55 am, and Rob and Sam are woken by Mark (who is secretly working for Big Brother) as he wanders through their room, half naked,on the way to the pool. Jeremy ignores all exhortations to rouse himself, and for reasons unknown, does not emerge from his own room in the boys’ flat until 8.28. At 8.30 the housemates are boarded on to the bus to travel to the reheasal venue in St. Austremoine. It’s already baking hot, and some of the girls take the opportunity to get some sun while everyone takes a short walk down to the chapel.

It's 12.30pm, and after a succesful rehearsal, they wander up the valley to the house of Bernard, who is extravagant in his hospitality, and the delicious wine from his own vineyard encourages Adam to strip down to his boxer shorts and dive in to the pool. He is closely followed by Will Missin, who appears unshamed by his action thong, vintage Brian Mills catalogue, 1988. Many of the other boys follow, but Charlotte Mobbs takes the opportunity to steal the boys shorts, having been caught in the cross-fire with the frizbee. Jeremy Budd chases her down the hill (a veritable adonis in his lycra trunks). Neither returned for some while.

It’s back to the church after everyone has dried off, to complete rehearsal for the first concert tomorrow, and everyone seems in high spirits on the coach back to Las Canals, as there is a wedding reception about to take place, to which all are invited. A pre-dinner yoga class is scheduled, at which the boys are very poorly represented, due some quite serious tennis being played, especially by Jeremy ‘the Scud’ Budd. But all admire the view from the hill!

It's 8.30pm and a sumptous dinner, which includes the local speciality ‘aligot’, puts the group in a convivial mood, and everyone moves outside afterwards, to the sounds of Bach cantatas echoing through the valley. As all the pilgrims make their way to bed all thoughts of being voted off the tour are dispelled by fine wine and good company.
